This episode is with Ian Thomas, the Chief Executive of the Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames.
The interview is in two parts:
A lot of the conversations I have had so far on the podcast have focused on “people” services (community care, social care etc.). The first part of today’s interview is all about what makes Kingston a really exciting and vibrant “place” – the public sector infrastructure needed, the commercial vibrancy and the inward investment needed and the importance of attractive and safe public places.
In the second part of the interview, we go back to Ian’s previous life as the Director of Children’s Services (DCS) in Rotherham. Rotherham was the scene of one of the most well know and horrific child sexual exploitation scandals this country has ever seen. Ian became DCS there in 2015 and worked with police and others to recover from this. Ian describes how this was achieved.
I really enjoyed this conversation with Ian and I hope you get as much from it as I did.
