Mutual Ventures

Community Dental Services

Community Dental Services (CDS) is an employee owned Community Interest Company. It was formed as a spin-out from the NHS under the Department of Health Right to Request initiative. Mutual Ventures were selected as the provider of choice for contract readiness support funded through the Social Investment Business Investment and Contract Readiness Fund.

The aim of the project was to review the organisations social impact management approach in order to secure additional contracts and increase their sustainability.

MV worked with CDS to co-design a social impact measurement tool following Social Return on Investment (SROI) methodology, to capture relevant outcomes to present to commissioners, funders and wider stakeholders. Mutual Ventures worked with the team to help develop the CDS team’s SROI skills with particular emphasis on how to maximise their impact in tender responses. We then supported the team through a bidding process, providing market analysis support, constructive commentary and recommendations on key sections of the bid which helped the team develop a compelling bid.

As a result of our project work, CDS secured a contract with Leicestershire County Council worth £428k over 2 years. Mutual Ventures continued to work with the organisation and subsequently produced a social impact report for another existing contract. CDS staff confidence has grown in preparation of responses for bids. Ongoing communication with the team has identified that the organisation has been successful in 3 out of 4 contracts that they have actively competed in post our support.

Alison Reed, Chief Executive: “The support has been critical in helping us to clearly articulate the uniqueness of our service offering and the added value our organisation would bring to communities seeking the provision of specialist dental services. We have no hesitation to recommending them (Mutual Ventures) to aspirant companies as their contribution has been invaluable.”
